Another personal post, hope you don’t mind. In my most recent Get to know me post I mentioned my visual impairment. I wanted a chat about it more in this one, go into a bit more detail, ya know? I’m gonna try not to make it to dull.
So like I said, I’ve had my ‘condition’ since I was born. The condition being aniridia. Honestly, I can’t really tell you a lot about Aniridia myself as I don’t actually know a lot. I’ve never really been bothered to read up about it since it’s my norm and there’s nothing I can do about it. All I do know is that basically – on a real basic ass level – I don’t have an iris, which means light affects me a lot more intensely than others. So as a kid I did suffer from migraine regularly. If you want to know more about the condition on a more in-depth scientific/medical level, you might have to look it up – soz.
I have never really known that much about my syndrome until quite recently. Mainly just because it was my normal, I have nothing to compare it to. But also, there isn’t that much out there about it, we are still learning It’s quite a rare condition when I was born there were only two other people in Scotland who had it.
One thing I do know is that it is now thought to be a syndrome and not just an eye condition. Because there are more factors that come with it, than just poor eyesight. So, some of the other things are, hyper-mobility, metabolism issues, Autism, low iron and hyper-thyroid, to name a few. I defiantly have some of these. Hyper-mobility being one. I know some people have hyper-mobility since birth and it can be quite severe. Thankfully, I only experienced it for the first time when I was 18 and have only been affected by it 2 other times since then. It also only affects my left knee cap, which sucks but, I know it could be worse.
But anyway! I just wanted to quickly mention it. And if you have anything you’d like to talk about in the future let me know. I do want to start making some more content surrounding it.
